Howard Hallis wrote:"Is this the first video game to feature Dr. Strange on the cover? Answer: Yes it is."Oh... I sure hope you don't hate me for telling you this but... No. No it isn't.While it IS true that this is Doc's first FRONT cover appearance on a video game (y'know if you invert the cover art), it is at least his THIRD video game box appearance (the others being BACK cover images).---1984 - QUESTPROBE's INCREDIBLE HULK game.Doctor Strange is shown TWICE on the back (an illustration at the top of the box and a screen grab near the bottom). However, DOC is ONLY on the BOXED packaging, not any of the clamshell packed versions.(I'll email you a few I've found online on sale.)But here's a site that has screen grabs (including DOC's appearance and NIGHTMARE. Oh, yeah. Nightmare is in it too. As Hulk's "greatest foe").Neither Doctor Strange nor Nightmare are PLAYABLE characters.Doc appears to give HULK some clues, and Nightmare is merely a memory for Hulk to use to get angry, as suggested by Strange.http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/24652/Questprobe%20Featuring%20The%20Hulk.html--- 1992 - Sega - SPIDER-MAN (vs the Kingpin).Doc is IN the game AND on the back of the box (as a screen grab). However, he is ONLY on the box of the SEGA MASTER SYSTEM version! He is IN the game for the MASTER SYSTEM and the GAME GEAR, but NOT the GENESIS or the SEGA CD.Even though Wikipedia says he is, he isn't.They're wrong.Doc isn't a PLAYABLE character, though. He gives Spidey a talisman to use whenever the player needs to let Spidey rest. Using the talisman sends Parker home. It's just a single head-shot of Doc talking to Spidey. Nothing more.If you want a version of the game with DOC ON the box, then the MASTER SYSTEM version is your only choice.(I'll email you links to some sales I see.)However, here is a link with pix:http://www.sega-club.com/Archiv/MasterSystem/SpiderMan.jpg--Yes, I've been planning a HUGE Doc video game series of posts - since, like... forever. 2012 is the year I WILL get to do it. This I so swear!Tamam Shud!~P~
Here's a better online pic of the MASTER SYSTEM packaging.Yes, I could scan my copies of these games, but that would have to wait, and I don't think you want me to hold off any longer than needed.http://www.theoldcomputer.com/game-box-art-covers/Sega/Master-System/S/Spider-Man.jpg
I've known about both those games for years and didn't realize Dr. Strange made it to the back cover of the boxes until now. You're an invaluable resource Peter!
Any time, my friend.Sorry for the double-post. The 2nd one is the proper one. Oops. That's what happens when I type too fast.I accidentally delete whole lines of text.
